Google Continues to Promote Crypto Phishing Sites, According to Binance Boss
Crypto Phishing – This week, CZ warned on Twitter that when searching for CoinMarketCap on Google, phishing sites with an ad tag appear before the real site. Despite Google’s strict cryptocurrency marketing policies for its advertising service, scammers have still escaped the cracks in recent years. At times, scam websites have even been displayed higher than legitimate crypto and blockchain projects. In an Oct. 27 tweet, CZ warned that when searching CoinMarketCap on Google, phishing sites with an “ad” tag were showing up in front of the actual website.
“This affects users who use these phishing sites to add smart contract addresses to MetaMask. We are trying to communicate with Google about this while reminding users about it through social channels,” he said. CoinMarketCap, one of the most used cryptocurrency data aggregators on the market, was acquired by Binance for an undisclosed fee in April 2020. Given its popularity, a lot of traffic could be directed toward these scam ads.
