Yellen Called For Strict Enforcement of Crypto Laws in the United States

Crypto Laws – US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the US government should use its law enforcement agencies to fight cryptocurrency fraud and malpractice, and reiterated her agency’s call to “step up” enforcement of digital assets. The Biden administration released a series of digital asset reports in September and October to unify the many federal agencies dealing with cryptocurrency issues. Yellen spoke about the reports at the annual meeting of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association in New York.

“Our report found numerous cases of fraud and embezzlement, as well as operational failures,” Yellen said. “”There are few existing law enforcement agencies and we would like to see more enforcement in this area.” Yellen spoke broadly about risks to the economy and said cryptocurrencies do not yet pose a significant risk to financial stability. Yellen noted that the crypto market is still “not big enough or connected enough,” but that could change as the technology evolves.
